Ok I want to try to catch up with this book club. I am advocating for systems thinking in science for a long time and my writing as a biologist considers the interacting systems that we a re shaped by, so I have been meaning to read this for quite some time!
It's been really interesting. If nothing else I'd tune in for the bonus week where we'll be looking at an interesting critique of systems thinking I read recently and wrapping up on it. Have you ever checked out the folks at the Santa Ana institute btw? I read a book by Stuart Kaufmann about evolution which was FASCINATING. Seems like the instititute is about applying systems thinking vibes to science. Just came across this doco on the whole place last week been meaning to watch it I reckon it'll be up your alley: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KeqjT2xyM0
Thanks so much, Ill definitely check this out. Hubs, centres and institutes tend to do a much better job of, and make it a mission to, become interdisciplinary and apply systems thinking much more than regular science academic positions, so Im absolutely not the only one, but it is where my own work is headed. Thanks so much. I'm interested in the critiques of systems thinking as well so that sounds valuable too!
Just watched it over the weekend. Very cool watch. Didn't realise Cormac McCarthy had pitched himself up there. I guess all those interesting chats were good for stimulating the creative juices. It's definitely got me thinking about Nietzsche's idea of monasteries of the soul which I want to go back and write a piece about having watched it. Very inspiring.
I can see your point about institutions and interdisciplinary studies. Being able to talk with experts in the field can help mitigate time wasted chasing impostor syndrome round in circles
Just read the first few pages and I’m intrigued. This will be good.
Right! I remember enjoying the start but meaning to return to it and give it the time it deserves. I think this is one that could bear a lot of fruit

Noted, thanks!
