Great read. Interesting to me to put your message into a perspective of a collective rather than necessarily individuals--like a balancing act of an entire society’s or culture’s ego. Certainly it would be easy to think of collectives with egos that were overwhelmed by rationalism, brutality, etc.
Really looking forward to the piece on ego inflation. Something I read once that was very interesting was the observation that the founders of religions have all been massively ego inflated. They could probably get away with it (though did Jesus get away with it?) back in those times because people were more comfortable with hierarchy, and so were not triggered by someone claiming to be special as bluntly as they did.
That's an interesting observation. I guess it does make sense and it definitely tracks with the piece on ego inflation I have in mind. I'm not sure about the times thing though. I think people would be just as irritated by it in any time period and you still see plenty of guru ego inflation and indulgence of this in gurus and political leaders (especially populist ones) and in public intellectuals. My suspicion would be that there's as much ego inflation today as ever
Daedalus, being a great inventor, created two pairs of wings that would allow him and his sign (son ?) to escape Crete and fly back to mainland Greece.

A fantastic piece. Appreciating the quality and breadth of wisdom here.
Thanks Jindy
Outstanding article
Cheers Mark
Excellent article! BTW, think there’s a typo:
Daedalus, being a great inventor, created two pairs of wings that would allow him and his sign (son ?) to escape Crete and fly back to mainland Greece.
You have good eyes Joe! I've updated the article. Thanks for that - and the kind words!
You’re welcome! Keep up the great work!
