I had never really thought about the meaning crisis from the perspective of whose experiences our ideas about meaning actually came from. The idea that we tend to treat one way of seeing the world as neutral, instead of recognizing that our bodies and experiences shape how we understand it, really got me thinking.
"This, I think, is one of the most dangerous forms of extinction: when we lose something without ever knowing that we have lost it.
The same worldview that struggles to make sense of a woman’s changing body struggles to understand a forest that needs to remain “unproductive” for a while.
The same culture that sees menstruation as lost productivity sees fallow land as wasted land.
The same metaphysics that breaks the body into parts breaks ecosystems into resources.
The same inability to tolerate the descending phase of our own lives makes endless economic growth appear not only possible, but desirable."
We don't even know it's missing...much less that it's not yet named, discussed, studied, or enculturated into our everyday comprehension of existence…it’s so ontological :0
Unfortunately, Feminism 2.0 (Suffragettes 1.0) was mistranslated into the quick-read headline: Women equal to Men...thwarting the full scope paradigm shift Gloria Steinem envisioned and propagating the subsequent specious versions of the movement we're still obfuscated by today.
All to say, all we really have is 'adapt-rewrite-retool' the feminine into the masculine worldview frame…unless we elevate into the mainstream what we're, FINALLY, getting at here…the unearthing of 'IT' at the most primordial level:
Does a cyclical-mind-body (bag of chemicals: Aa), possessing the inner-workings to grow new life, view the world differently from a noncyclical-mind-body (bag of chemicals: Bb) with no capacity to internally grow a new life inside them? And what would our World look, feel, smell, be like if only one type of those mind-bodies controlled literally everything?
Thanks for this articulation Ann. I’d love for to expand on the last part of your text. ‘And what would our World look, feel, smell, be like if only one type of those mind-bodies controlled literally everything?’ Could you share more on this?
Me too. Have long fantasized that version of the World we've yet to experience. I want to bring it to life as: foundational linguistics, metaphors, images, symbols, & ultimately full immersive renderings...then a film. All of which posits: 'If we imagine-alchemize-visualize-create such a World, they will come.' Would love to conceive a workshop series, for many participants, that affords the manifestation of such :]
Finding what we didn't know that we had lost...yes! If women had been able to be a part of the discussion with Nietzsche - well, now we are here with our embodied wisdom, the wisdom of cycles of valuing rest and shedding. Although I I know it's quite the journey to come back into the body, or at least it has been for me. I am excited for the many women you'll be able to usher back into their embodied wisdom through your words (especially the wonderful NEW words you've created!)
Thank you Adriana for sharing your cycled and now menopausal thoughts with us! I am so excited to read your work as you release it, and for our continuing conversations.
James - Thank you for using your platform to share voices like Adriana, Sharon Blackie, etc. I have really enjoyed seeing the evolution of The Living Philosophy over the last two years. Thank you for sharing YOUR journey.
As a man, I have long realized that we have exhausted ourselves beyond hope after "we killed god" and I have seen Jung's call to get to know our Anima as the solution. Getting feminine philosophy like this feels like the balm from Gilead. Thank you so much. We need more of this!

Excited for where that thinking will take you Tyler. ☺️
Adriana I love this. It’s really profound thank you

Powerful. Thank you Ann. Let's keep dreaming, alchemizing and creating. If this work can support you in bringing this to life, I'm stoked.

Thanks Megan it's been a joy!
